PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) including a cholesteric liquid crystal color filter is provided to obtain high luminance and color purity. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes the first and second substrates(100,200), a cholesteric liquid crystal color filter(104a,104b,104c), a buffer layer(108a,108b,108c), a transparent pixel electrode(112), a liquid crystal layer(300), and a transparent common electrode(202). The first and second substrates face each other and include a plurality of red, green and blue pixels. The liquid crystal color filter is formed on the first substrate and represents red, green and blue colors corresponding to the red, green and blue pixels, respectively. The liquid crystal color filter has different thicknesses respectively corresponding to the red, green and blue pixels. The buffer layer is formed of the same material as the material of the liquid crystal color filter on the liquid crystal color filter and has different thicknesses respectively corresponding to the red, green and blue pixels. The pixel electrode is formed on the buffer layer, and the liquid crystal layer is formed on the pixel electrode. The common electrode is formed between the liquid crystal layer and the second substrate.
