PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has a fast processing speed as an image forming apparatus configured to form an image on recording paper according to output data generated by processing image data read in from a document specified according to the document kind. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an image input means for reading the image data of the document, a color processing means for generating color data from the image data, a black-and-white processing means for generating black-and-white data from the image data, a document deciding means for deciding whether the document is a color document or a black-and-white document according to the image data, a storage control means for storing one of the color data and black-and-white data in a specified storage means according to the decision result of the document decision means, and a data standardizing means for standardizing the data stored in the specified storage means into color data or black-and-white data according to whether the document decision means decides the presence of the color document or not.
