摘要 The present invention discloses a method for the modulation of the enzymatic activity of prolyl endopeptidase in various human tissues and their biological effect on intracellular inositol (1,4,5) triphosphate concentration. The present invention also discloses the potentiation of endogenous neurological and intracellular signaling cascades by inhibition of prolyl endopeptidase activity. This invention further discloses the amplification of substance P mediated stimulation of IP3 concentration by inhibition of proline endopeptidase activity. The effect of reduced PEP activity on second messenger concentration indicates a novel intracellular function of this peptidase, which has an important impact on cognitive enhancements due to PEP inhibition. Furthermore, this invention discloses the treatment of neuronal disorders such as impaired learning and memory, autoimmune diseases and T-lymphocyte mediated immune disorders and tissue regeneration processes, such as wound healing, which are mediated by activated fibroblasts and/or T-lymphocytes.
