PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply change the diameter of a pit excavation. SOLUTION: A pit excavator has a supporting base 1 fixed to a pit 60 by a gripper 3, a cylindrical body 20 relatively moved in the vertical direction to the base 1 and rotated centering around the base 1, a helical drum excavator 40 excavating the base ground 62 of the pit 60 while being unified with the body 20 and a carrying means 30 carrying out excavated materials fed into the lower end section of the body 20 to the outside of the body 20. The gripper 3 is installed through arms 9 composed of spacers 9a detachably connected to the base 1 while the angle of mounting of the excavator 40 is changed in the horizontal direction, the angle of mounting of the excavator 40 is changed, and the number of connection of the spacers 9a is varied and the length of the arms 9 is altered, thus varying an excavation diameter.
