PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a fiber, which is highly safe, has an uncomplicated dissolution process and provides a modified fiber having excellent antistatic properties, water absorption properties, shrink resistance, etc. SOLUTION: The method for modifying a fiber comprises attaching a solution which is obtained by dissolving a low-substitution-degree cellulose ether having 0.05-1.5 degree of molar substitution by an alkyl group and/or a hydroxyalkyl group in an alkali aqueous solution to a fiber and coagulating the attached solution.
