PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeding device capable of appropriately controlling an interval between a plurality of documents to be fed. SOLUTION: This automatic document feeding device separates a plurality of documents G placed on a document tray 20 one by one to carry them to a document reading position. When previously feeding a following document G to the predetermined previously-fed position just on this side of the document reading position in the document carrying direction, in the case where the document G placed on the document tray 20 is a one-side document, of which one side alone is to be read, the automatic document feeding device 1 performs the one-side previously-fed control to previously feed the document following the document G, which is already carried to the document reading position, to the predetermined one-side previously-fed position on the document reading position side more than the described previously-fed position. With this structure, the generation of friction noise in the case of a double-side mode can be prevented, and the interval between the paper sheets can be set as narrow as possible to further improve the copying efficiency and to improve convenience.
