<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a waste by making possible to use an ink cartridge among a plurality of printers when a test print is performed at a factory. <P>SOLUTION: At a factory, a production firmware is downloaded from a host computer 1 to a printer 2 and stored in a nonvolatile memory of the printer 2. The production firmware 23 has a function for inhibiting a special code, for preventing use of an ink cartridge 3a among a plurality of printers, from being written in a memory 53a. Using that production firmware 23, a test print is carried out without writing a special code into the memory 53a of the ink cartridge 3a.
