<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to apply tensioning force to a drum head by preventing physical discomfort that interferes with the enjoyment of playing musical instruments and musician's playing technique. <P>SOLUTION: A tensioning device includes a conventional mechanical worm-drive mechanism for applying the tensioning force substantially perpendicular to the drum surface toward a flesh hoop to counter-hoop to increase the tension of the drum surface. One end of the device is surely affixed to a drumshell and the other end is tightly attached to the counter-hoop. The device is also comprised of two or more generally flat, ribbon-like belts disposed in the periphery of the sell in a low profile manner. A separated and series of parallel slots are disposed along a portion of at least one belt to engage components in the worm-drive to enable the adjustment of the tension within the surface of the drum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
