PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pumping apparatus capable of improving force-feeding efficiency by intermittently force-feeding solid foreign matters such as waste and dirt together with sewage water continuously force-fed by the continuous operation of a pump. SOLUTION: This pumping apparatus is provided with a plurality of separating tanks 4A, 4B, to the inlets 1 of which a sewage inflow pipe 2 is connected, having check valves 3 for preventing back flow to the sewage inflow pipe 2 from the inlets 1, and filtering means 11 for collecting the solid foreign matters, to which water pipes 10A, 10B are connected; and a four-way selector valve 14 for alternately changing and communicating the outlets 12 of the separating tanks 4A, 4B with a discharge port 7A and a suction port 7B of the pump 7. The four-way selector valve 14 is changed over to reverse the communicating state of the outlets 12 of the separating tanks 4A, 4B on one side and the other side with the suction port 7B or the discharge port 7A of the pump 7.
