摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element and a manufacturing method thereof, where the light emitting element of high brightness and emission efficiency which is appropriate for uniformity and miniaturization with a integrally formed phosphor layer is manufactured at a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: In a process (a), a single blue LED wafer 11 is prepared where a light emitting layer 19 for a plurality of light emitting elements (blue LED chip: the size of each is smaller than a conventional blue LED chip) is formed on a sapphire substrate 10. In a process (b), a groove of specified form (side surface of chip) is formed to improve the emission efficiency of each light emitting element. A phosphor layer 14 is formed for emitting a complementary color that complements blue light in processes (c) and (d).
