PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which retrieves an image quickly by making a character image or an image copied in a thumbnail image vivid. SOLUTION: When a release button is pushed by a user (S1), after setting AF, AE, and AWB (S2), the camera takes image data in a DRAM 37 in Figure 1 (S3). The image data taken are converted to data of a YUV format and a main image is created (S4). An image for confirmation to be displayed on an LCD is created from the main image (S5), and the image is displayed on the LCD. After that, an image for a thumbnail image is created (S6). Whether the user has made a setting for copying in the thumbnail image is determined (S7). If the setting has been made (YES in S7), copying in the thumbnail is made (S8), an image file is created (S9), and the file is written in a memory (S10).
