PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber for a sewing thread, having a good color tone (color b value), exhibiting very small amount of attached material on a spinneret even by spinning through the spinneret for a long period and less in occurrence of yarn cutting, etc., in a yarn twisting process for producing a sewing thread, in addition, less in unevenness in its fiber fineness (evenness U%) and also excellent in dyeing stability, and a sewing thread produced by using the polyester fiber. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber for the sewing thread is constituted by a polyester polymer. The polyester polymer is obtained by a polymerization by using a catalyst which is a precipitated material obtained by heating a specific titanium compound and a specific phosphorus compound in a glycol.
