PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sea-island type blend fibers, by which the fibers remarkably improving defects such as easy frictional fibrillation and low fatigue resistance can be produced in excellent operability, while fibers comprising a crystalline polyester have the defects. SOLUTION: This method for producing the sea-island type blend fibers comprising a liquid crystalline polyester (A) as an island component and a non-liquid crystalline polymer (B) as a sea component is characterized by spinning 60 to 90 vol. % of the liquid crystalline polyester (A) and 40 to 10 vol. % of the non-liquid crystalline (amorphous) polymer (B) so as to satisfy the following expressions (1) and (2): (ψA /ψB) < (ηA /ηB) (1) andηA>ηB (2), whereinηA andηB are the melt viscosities of the liquid crystalline polyester (A) and the non-liquid crystalline polymer (B), respectively, at a shear rate of 100 sec<SP>-1</SP>and at temperature of T, andϕA andϕB are the volume fractions viscosities of the liquid crystalline polyester (A) and the non-liquid crystalline polymer (B), respectively, at a shear rate of 100 sec-1 and at temperature of T.
