PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition or a gum giving excellent whitening effect on the teeth based on a principle quite different from that of conventional methods. SOLUTION: The composition for oral cavity application or the chewing gum contains an organic acid and/or an inorganic acid and a fluorine-ion supplying compound. A light-scattering layer is formed on the enamel layer of the tooth by the application of the composition to the oral cavity to shield the endogenic colored layer of the tooth and give white appearance to the teeth.
