PURPOSE: A biaxially oriented polyester film which is matt on one side and a process for production and an use thereof are provided to have a good optical property and an excellent winding property and processability. CONSTITUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film which is matt on one side comprises at least one base layer and at least one matt overlayer. The overlayer contains particles having a mean particle diameter(d50) of 2 to 10 micrometers and SPAN98 value of 2 or less and is composed of a polyester containing 4 to 30 mol% of an isophthalic acid unit based on a total weight of an acid in a polyester of the layer. A particle content of the overlayer is 10,000 to 70,000 ppm based on a total weight of the layer.
