A light-stable composition comprises linear polypropylene and a stabilizing amount of a compound of the formula: wherein each of R, R 1 , R 2 , and R 3 , is a hydrocarbon radical containing 1 to 18 carbon and M is either N 1 or Co. Exemplified compounds of the formula are nickel di-(n-propyl)- or, -(n-butyl)-or, -(n-hexyl)- or -(2-ethyl hexyl)- or, di-lauryl- or, di-cyclohexyl-dithiocarbamate, and the corresponding cobalt compounds. Shaped articles such as fibres which are made from the stable compositions are stated to resist degradation caused by exposure to light rich in the ultra-violet portion of the spectrum as produced by a carbon arc for periods of time in excess of 800 hours. |
