<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a galectin-8 activity controlling agent produced by clarifying the function of the CRD (carbohydrate recognition domain) of galectin-8, searching for the substance capable of controlling the galectin-8 activity, and understanding the physiological phenomenon such as inflammation and other diseases relating to a neutrophil, etc., based on the fact that galectin-8 has hemagglutination activity and strong neutrophile adhesion inducing activity, the interaction between the CRD and the substance in the body possibly participates in the development of the activity and the 1st step of the neutrophile infiltration to the inflammation site is the interaction such as adhesion with the endothelial cells. <P>SOLUTION: A mutant protein on the CRD of galectin-8, i.e. N-terminal CRD and C-terminal CRD is constructed and the sugar chain structure active to specifically bonding with each CRD is clarified.
