PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device for a vehicle capable of economizing fuel and improving exhaust emission while suppressing an occupant's discomfort to a minimum. SOLUTION: This engine control device is provided with a position detecting means 21c for detecting the position of the vehicle at present; a storage means 41 for storing map information including information at least on the positions of signals; and an automatic stop inhibiting means 7 determining whether the engine was automatically stopped in continuous sequence in the respective positions corresponding to the signals which the vehicle approached, based on the vehicle position information by the position detecting means 21c and the map information, and in the case of determining that automatic stop was continuously executed, inhibiting the automatic stop of the engine in future traveling regardless of the operating condition of the vehicle in the position corresponding to the first signal where the automatic stop was executed, out of the signals which the vehicle approached.
