PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage volume reducer suitable for a kitchen to eliminate danger of putting a hand or the like into a drain hole at volume reducing operation of a hydraulic cylinder 54 as smell tends to leak to the outside when the drain hole is opened. SOLUTION: The garbage volume reducer is provided with a city water introducing passage 4 introducing city water pressure, a volume reducing actuator 3 reducing garbage or the like with the city water pressure, a lid 10 opening and closing a garbage inlet port 7 to the volume reducing actuator 3, and a safety valve 15 opening and closing the city water introducing passage 4. The safety valve 15 is closed interlocking with the motion of the lid 10 to open the garbage inlet port 7, and opened interlocking with the motion of the lid 10 to close the garbage inlet port 7.
