PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking error detection device and its phase difference elimination method for detecting a tracking error signal precisely by eliminating phase difference resulting from circuit error of the tracking error detection device. SOLUTION: This tracking error detection device is provided with an equalization section 110 which equalizes input signals A, B, C, D to a predetermined level, a comparison section 130 to quantize the signals A, B, C, D equalized by the equalization section 110, and a phase displacement section 140 to eliminate mutual phase difference of the quantized signals A, B, C, D from the comparison section 130 using a predetermined control signal. The device is further provided with a systems control section which supplies the predetermined control signal for eliminating the mutual phase difference of the quantized signals A, B, C, D to the phase displacement section.
