Computer based method for determining the current position of a vehicle within a predefined region, whereby each wheel of an at least two wheel axis is equipped with a transponder. The vehicle is then positioned in a start reference position. Signals from the transponders are then received and evaluated in order to determine vehicle movements relative to its reference position. Actual vehicle position is determined based on its reference position and the movement vector. An independent claim is made for a device for determining the current position of a vehicle within a predefined region.
