<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is restored from an abnormal state even when a user does not exist nearby and stores the abnormal state so that it may be effective to later maintenance work. <P>SOLUTION: A controller monitors the state of the image forming apparatus, and issues a requirement to turn off a power source to a scanner/IPU part in the case of abnormality which requires resetting. The scanner/IPU part prepares to turn off the power source, and gives a response to the controller when such preparation is finished.
