<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-side-effect natural-origin prophylactic and ameliorating agent which is easily available and takable in daily eating habits and can ameliorate diabetic conditions such as hyperglycemia, diabetic hyperlipidemia, and diabetic osteoporosis, and to provide a functional food, food material, or feed for the prophylaxis and amelioration of diabetic conditions. <P>SOLUTION: It has been found out that a water extract of marine alga Sargassum horneri (Turner) C. Agardh is a composition which exhibits an effect on diabetes and diabetic osteoporosis by administering the water extract to a diabetes model animal in a diabetic condition induced by the administration of streptozotocin. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
