<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new refractometer for ophthalmology which avoids the faults of well-known techniques, and a method for utilizing the refractometer for ophthalmology capable of simply attaining a very good measured result. <P>SOLUTION: In the refractometer for ophthalmology, an optometer system and an observation system are adjusted so as to be synchronized mutually relatively in relation to a prescribed reference position, and a refraction force parameter of the eye is specified from the difference between the adjusting position and the reference position at which the profile of a visual index is sharply projected on the retina at least partially. A digital image data of the visual index projected on the retina can be photographed by using a digital photographing device disposed in the observation system.
