PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development method in which excellent fixability is assured, the initial contamination of a photoreceptor and the degradation in en electrostatic charge quantity resulted after repeated execution of development are effectively prevented and good-quality images are obtained stably for a long period of time. SOLUTION: In the development method, where an electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of a photoreceptor is developed by use of the two-component type magnetic developer to form a toner image and toner is replenished into the developer when the concentration of the toner in the developer falls to a specified value or below as the toner is consumed by development, the cold DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter) value calculated from the exothermic peak during temperature fall in DSC measurement of the toner is in a range of 8±2°C, the toner with a fatty acid metal salt externally added in an amount of 0.1 to 2.0 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight toner particles is used as the starting toner in the developer used during initial development and the toner with the fatty acid metal salt externally added in an amount of 0.005 to 0.05 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight toner particles is used as the replenishing toner.
