The sleeping alcove ladder assembly has a ladder (3) which is fitted on a frame (21) and movable sideways. A guide rail (4) is fitted on the frame of the alcove and interacts with a slide (5) fastened to the ladder. The ladder can move back and forth on the slides between at least an in-use position and neutral position. The ladder assembly also has a cupboard located to the side of the ladder and into which the ladder can slide with a sideways movement.
