<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator having non-phase reversal only by providing a pair of lenses without using expensive magneto-optical materials. <P>SOLUTION: The optical isolator 10 is provided with a first waveguide 12 which is optically coupled to a first optical fiber F1, a second wavegudie 13 which is optically coupled to a second optical fiber F2, a first lens 15 which provides parallel light beams from the outgoing light beams having light-emitting end face A of the waveguide 12 as a focus and a second lens 16 which is used to converge the parallel light beams passed through the lens 15 onto an incident end face B of the waveguide 13 and to diffuse returning light beams whose focus is the face B of the waveguide 13.
