PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable wavelength semiconductor pulse light source device capable of fixing a center frequency for finely controlling a repetition frequency and fixing a repetition frequency for greatly changing the center wavelength. SOLUTION: In the variable wavelength semiconductor pulse light source device; a semiconductor gain section 1 having gain to a predetermined wavelength region, a semiconductor modulator 2 where a light absorption coefficient to a wavelength region changes by applying voltage, and DBR sections 3, 4 comprising a diffraction grating having periodicity, are formed on the same substrate. Additionally, the DBR sections 3, 4 are provided at two places while sandwiching the semiconductor gain section 1 and the semiconductor modulator 2 and are made of a chirp grating, where the period of the diffraction grating changes as the function of position.
