PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evade the expansion and contraction of a made-up image to be made up in a carried stencil paper in a stencil paper carrying device for carrying the stencil paper unwound from a stencil paper roll. SOLUTION: The residual quantity of the stencil paper roll is calculated in a residual quantity calculating means 65 by cumulatively reducing the length of a plate to be made up from the total length of the stencil paper roll stored in the memorizing means 70 of the stencil paper roll 21b so as to rotate a light pulse motor more quicker in proportion as the residual quantity of the roll becomes lesser in order to control the rotational speed of a platen roller, resulting in compensating with the carrying distance caused by the slippage on the platen roller 23 due to the back tension applied to the stencil paper and in realizing the carrying of the stencil paper at a certain carrying speed.
