PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quick open mechanism which can lift upper work rolls instantly and in a large distance without deterioration of functions of a conventional leveler. SOLUTION: The quick open mechanism Q is arranged on a lower work roll frame 15 installed on a base frame 11 and its right and left sides, and is comprised of stands 20, 22, a slider 30 arranged movable slidingly in the vertical direction along the stands 20, 22, and a hydraulic cylinder 28 to vertically drive the slider. Under the slider 30, a tapered wedge structure 36 to adjust a reduction amount individually on the upstream side and the downstream side, the upper work roll frame 32 hung via the structure 36, and a synchronizing mechanism 53 to synchronize the vertical motion in the front and rear ends and in the right and left ends of the slider 30 are equipped.
