PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil identification device capable of identifying a soil distribution objectively from a soil image such as a boring core image. SOLUTION: This soil identification device 10 is equipped with a teacher data storage part 25 for storing a plurality of teacher data generated by characterizing a plurality of kinds of soils respectively from various soil images, a feature quantity calculation processing part 23 for calculating the feature quantity for characterizing the soil image based on pixel data constituting the soil image, a soil identification processing part 24 for comparing the feature quantity calculated by the feature quantity calculation processing part 23 with each teacher data stored in the teacher data storage part 25, and thereby identifying the soil pertinent to the teacher data by specifying the teacher data fulfilling a prescribed condition to the feature quantity, and a display part 26 for displaying the name of the soil or a pattern for showing the soil identified by the soil identification processing part 24 together with the soil image.
