PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cover glass for solid imaging devices having a high grade with respect to the defects of a surface and inside, a low cost, excellent weather resistance, lighter weight, and high strength. SOLUTION: The side 12 of a plate glass is composed of a first side portion 12a forming roughly perpendicularity to a first light transmitting plane 11a, and a second side portion 12b tilted to the first side portion 12a. The surface roughness of the first side portion 12a is greater than that of the second side portion 12b. The Ra value of the surface roughness of the first side portion 12a is 0.1 to 10 nm, and the Rmax value is 0.1 to 30 nm. The Ra value of the surface roughness of the second side portion is 0.1 to 5 nm, and the Rmax value is 0.1 to 20 nm. The angle formed by the first side portion 12a to the first light transmitting plane 11a is within the range of 90°±5°, and the angle formed by the second side portion 12b to the first side portion 12a is 8°or smaller.
