PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence device sufficiently securing the drive stability of the device and with excellent color purity at high luminous efficacy. SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescence device, an anode, a light emission layer, a hole-inhibiting layer and a cathode are laminated on a substrate sequentially. The hole-inhibiting layer comprises a compound expressed by the formula I. In the formula I, a carbazolyl group and a phenylene group may have arbitrary substituents, or the substituents may be bonded together to form a ring.
