PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that has a high font display speed and that has the ability of receiving other programs during the font display. SOLUTION: The image display device includes an outline data storing part, an arithmetic part, a plotting parameter storing part, a plotting part, and a display part. The arithmetic part, for every character data of character data line, is capable of carrying out a series of processes in parallel in a separate sled for each character, consisting of a reading process for reading corresponding outline data from the outline data storing part, a calculating process for calculating a plotting parameter from the outline data read in the reading process, and a generating process for controlling the plotting part from the plotting parameter calculated in the calculating process, plotting characters, shaping the characters plotted, and generating character display data.
