PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly active catalyst for polymerization of olefin which imparts a polyolefin having high melt tension, excellent mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The solid catalyst for polymerization of olefin comprises a solid carrier, (A) a solid state transition metal catalyst component obtained by bringing (a) a compound of a transition metal of group 4 of the periodic table wherein the compound has at least one ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton, (b) an organic aluminumoxy compound and (c) a multi-functional organic halide expressed by general formula (I) into contact with each other, and optionally (B) an organic aluminum compound. In general formula (I) R is a group having valency of (o+p) and one or more halogen atoms, o or p are each a positive integer satisfying (o+p)≥2, Q<SP>1</SP>and Q<SP>2</SP>are each -OH, -NH<SB>2</SB>or -NLH (L is a halogen atom, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, etc.), L and R, N and R, N and N optionally bond each other to form a ring.
