PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce lactic acid from sea water in high efficiency in a short time. SOLUTION: Lactic acid is produced by the lactic fermentation for assimilating sugar components by a lactic bacterium of the genus Lactobacillus, Streptococcus or Leuconostoc, by carrying out the fermentation in the presence of sea water or water mixed with sea water.
