<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image composition method capable of obtaining more preferable composite image data in accordance with a photographic scene. <P>SOLUTION: High sensitivity image data High is subjected to processing performed by an OB processing part 61a, an LMTX 62a, a WB processing part 63a and a gamma correcting part 64a and then inputted to a multiplying part 66a. In addition, low sensitivity image data Low is similarly subjected to processing performed by an OB processing part 61b, an LMTX 62b, a WB processing part 63b and a gamma correcting part 64b and then inputted to a multiplying part 66b. Then, the high sensitivity image data High and the low sensitivity image data Low are respectively multiplied by gain data from a composition gain LUT 65, and multiplication results are added by an adding part 67. A composition range operating part 72 calculates a composition range when image composition is performed on the basis of a ratio x of a maximum value of object luminance shown by the low sensitivity image data to a luminance value shown by a maximum value that the high sensitivity image data can take.
