PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the high integration and multifunction of an optical semiconductor device, the efficient transmission of a high frequency signal, the improvement of inner airtight reliability, and the normal and stable working of an optical semiconductor element for a long period. SOLUTION: This package for storing an optical semiconductor element is composed of a base 1 which is formed by the junction of plate members 1b, 1c formed of metal plates divided into two by a linear division line passing through a central part in their division surfaces, and wherein a through hole 1a of an almost rectangular cross sectional contour, of which the long side is almost parallel to a junction line of the central part, is formed in the junction line; an input/output terminal 5 which is formed of a plane 5b wherein a line conductor 5c is formed and a standing wall 5a which is joined to one major surface of the plane 5b holding a part of the line conductor 5c therebetween and is fit to a through hole 1a; and a metal lid body 3 wherein a light transparent member 4 is joined to the circumference of an opening at the upper edge face 3a side of the through hole 3b and which is joined to the outer circumferential part of the upper major surface of the base 1.
