PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader/reorder capable of normally carrying an original at the time of a reading operation of the original even if a recording medium carrying means shares a space with an original carrying path. SOLUTION: When an original separation roller 15 carries the original to a reading position on a common carrying path, a CS holder 26 reads the original carried to the reading position. A recording paper carrying roller 19 can be freely rotated to a sharing state where the recording paper carrying roller 19 shares the space with the original carrying path and to an initial state where the recording paper carrying roller 19 does not share the space with the original carrying path. When the recording paper carrying roller 19 carries recording paper to a recording position on the common carrying path, a recording unit 1 records an image on the recording paper. When a user makes an instruction to start a reading operation (S1), a carrying roller state monitoring sensor 29 detects the state of the recording paper carrying roller 19 (S2), and when the recording paper carrying roller 19 is not in the initial state but in the sharing state (S3), the reading operation is inhibited and notification to the effect that the reading operation is inhibited is made (S5).
