PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new modified carbon black which can remarkably improve the fracture resistance and wet traction properties of a rubber composition with almost no influence on the low heat build-up properties at 300% elongation and wear resistance, its manufacturing method, and a rubber composition, particularly a rubber composition for a tire, blended with the modified carbon black. SOLUTION: The modified carbon black has a Ti-O-C linkage or Ti-C linkage (provided that the carbon atom directly bonded to a Ti atom comprises an aromatic carbon atom). This method for surface treatment of a carbon black is characterized in that it comprises a step of treating the surface of a carbon black with a titanium compound having an alkoxy group. The rubber composition is obtained by blending a rubber component comprising a natural rubber and/or a synthetic diene rubber with the modified carbon black.
