ORGANIC PLATINUM GROUP ELEMENT COMPOUND OF FULLERENOL AND/OR FULLERENOL HYDROGEN SULFATE ESTER, ITS USE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductive carbon cluster (especially fullerenol and/or fullerenol hydrogen sulfate ester) holding a platinum-group element, especially platinum or palladium dispersed in atomic level and, accordingly, useful as an electrode catalyst or electrode material of fuel cells and provide the application of the cluster and a method for the production of the cluster. SOLUTION: The organic platinum group element compound is composed of a proton conductive carbon cluster having a platinum group element bonded to the carbon atom of fullerenol and/or fullerenol hydrogen sulfate ester. The organic platinum group element compound of the proton conductive carbon cluster is useful as a proton conductive material. The organic platinum-group element compound of the proton conductive carbon cluster can be produced by reacting fullerenol and/or fullerenol hydrogen sulfate ester with a 0-valent complex of a platinum group element.
