An apparatus is used to capture and record images of the surrounding environment of a vehicle, and includes a proximity sensing device, a camera unit and a recording medium. The proximity sensing device is adapted to be mounted on the vehicle, and is adapted to detect the presence of an object that is in close proximity to the vehicle. The camera unit is coupled to and is activated by the proximity sensing device for capturing images of the object upon detection by the proximity sensing device of the presence of the object that is in close proximity to the vehicle. The recording medium is coupled to the proximity sensing device for recording the images captured by the camera unit. |
