FILTER ELEMENT AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A filter element which is not causative of environmental pollution when discarded, can be easily produced, has improved pressure loss, and can be produced at a reduced cost. The filter element is characterized by comprising: a filter element base which comprises a permeable porous molding obtained from a synthetic resin powder, nonwoven fabric, or felt through heating/sintering; and fine particles of ultrahigh-molecular polyethylene which have been packed in surface pores of the base, have an average molecular weight of 3,000,000 to 11,000,000 and a bulk specific gravity of 0.15 to 0.29, are aggregates of primary particles, and have voids of 1 to 5 µm at joints between primary particles.
