PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure inspection method of a valve regulated lead acid battery, which can check the presence or absence of a failure in a control valve device easily and efficiently, without the need of a cumbersome and troublesome task to remove a vent plug or the like from an exhaust tube and to check the control valve device. SOLUTION: In the valve regulated lead acid battery having a battery case kept airtight by a control valve device A, a cap 20 for enclosing an inside space a of the control valve device A is installed, air is compressed and sent from the inside of the cap 20 to the inside space of the control valve device A by an air sending pump 22, and the presence or absence of the failure in the control valve device is checked on the basis of a change in pressure of the air.
