PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material for a negative electrode suitable for a lithium secondary battery with high capacity, high first-time charge/discharge efficiency, excellent cycle characteristic and rapid charging characteristic, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor, a lithium secondary battery negative electrode and a lithium secondary battery. SOLUTION: This invention provides the carbon material for the lithium secondary battery negative electrode made by carbonating a material containing starch, its manufacturing method, the lithium secondary battery negative electrode and the lithium secondary battery.
