PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitoring system reduced in the processing load in a monitoring device for monitoring a plurality of devices to be monitored. SOLUTION: In the remote monitoring system comprising a plurality of monitoring devices 1 for collecting maintenance information of peripheral equipment 3-5, and a management server 6 connected to the monitoring devices 1 through a communication line 8 to manage the monitoring devices 1 in an integrated manner, each of the monitoring devices 1 periodically transmits an e-mail including the collected maintenance information and identification information of its own device to the management server 6. The management server 6 extracts, on receipt of the e-mail, the maintenance information included in the e-mail. The management server further updates receiving information corresponding to a monitoring device shown by the identification information included in the transmitted e-mail in a database for recording the receiving information of e-mail for every monitoring device, and detects an abnormal monitoring device in reference to the database.
