PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new coin-like object identifying method and device and to give the coin-like object a new structure for identification so that the identifying method can be applied. SOLUTION: The coin-like object 1 has a laminated structure part wherein two or more metallic layers 11 and 12 are laminated. The first layer 11, which is the surface layer on the side of one plate surface of the laminated structure part, and the second layer 12, which is the surface layer on the side of the other plate surface, can be identified by reflective electronic sensors 100 and 200 and are different in conductivity from each other. In this identifying method and device, a passage through which the coin-like object can pass is provided, and the reflective electronic sensors 100 and 200 are arranged in the passage so that they can individually be adjacent to the first and second layers ll and 12 of the coin-like object 1 passing through the passage, and then the identification is made based on the unique output of a metallic material which each magnetic sensor shows. In the structure of the coin-like object, which does not exist conventionally, the magnetic characteristics of its front are different from those of its back regarding the identification by the reflective electronic sensors (specifically the reflective magnetic sensors). Accordingly, the identification of the coin-like object can be improved and options for designing the identifying device is significantly increased by providing the coin-like object and its identification method and device.
