The phase detector circuit (18) has a phase detector (1) with 2 inputs (2,3) receiving input signals (In1,In2) of differing phase and a charge pump output stage (8) with 2 current sources (9,13). The first current source has a reference current input (14) which is switched between 2 reference current sources (15,16) under control of a first output (4) of the phase detector, the other phase detector output (5) controlling the on-off switching of the second current source. An independent claim for a phase regulating loop with a phase detector circuit is also included.
