PURPOSE: A production method of photochromic glass is provided to give improved photochromatic effect and color restoration speed compared to conventional photochromic glass by forming silver halide films on the surfaces of glass. CONSTITUTION: The photochromic glass is produced by the following steps of: coating glass surfaces with a film-forming solution, Cu, Cd or Ce-added silver halide solution; thermal treating glass at 400-800deg.C for forming silver halide crystals having a 5-20nm size on glass surfaces; coating thermal treated glass with amorphous SiO2 prepared from the sol-gel process for preventing films from peeling off; drying at 100-300deg.C. The production method of photochromic glass decreases the amounts of silver halides used by 20%, comparing with silver halide amount used in the conventional method.
