The stator of a synchronous motor comprises a coil (not shown) wound on a core and surrounded by an insulating sleeve 1 having one or more integral projections 2 accommodating the leads of the coil and connections between these leads and respective electrical conductors. These conductors may be the leads of voltagedropping resistors connected in series with the coil, and recesses to accommodate these resistors may be provided in the projection 2, as shown by the broken lines. To facilitate assembly slots 5, 6 are provided in the sleeve and projection so that the coil can be dropped into the sleeve with its leads extending into the slots. The core is tubular and is provided at its end with discs having projecting tongues which constitute polepieces, the tongues on one of the discs being folded back and extending to the other end of the core. One such folded-back tongue passes through a slot 10 in the projection 2. The coil may also constitute the inductance of a D.C. to A.C. converter, in which case the projection is arranged to accommodate leads to the two ends and a centre tap on the coil. |
